Successful first edition of Slimstock’s women’s event

An open and equal setting in an atmospheric venue, a delicious lunch and plenty of conversation about supply chain. Bring 14 women together around a table and Slimstock’s first Women in Supply Chain event is born. The fact that this first edition took place during the week of International Women’s Day was no coincidence and gave the event that extra layer of meaning. And now that it’s over, we can already conclude: this event deserves a permanent place on our events calendar.

Working in supply chain means making an impact – every single day. Although the majority of people working in supply chain are men, women are clearly on the rise. The expertise and role they fulfil within what is often a complex and dynamic environment are invaluable. With attendees from Igepa, Mediq, Kruidvat, Intergamma, Van Egmond, Swiss Sense and Jobe, women from a range of sectors joined the table to share their perspectives.

A mix of backgrounds that strengthened the discussion

Before long, the first connections were made and conversations started to flow. The participants shared experiences, recognised common challenges and supported one another in an open and equal environment. Guided by our colleagues Jenny Kloezeman and Jorinde Timmerman, the group discussed a number of shared themes. The mix of ages and backgrounds proved to be an ideal combination for exchanging experiences and practical tips. The atmosphere quickly became informal, which was only reinforced during the afternoon session when our online and interactive S&OP Game was played.

Informal, and competitive

After an extensive served lunch, the group was split into two teams. The friendly atmosphere at the table remained, but a lively competition between the two newly formed teams soon followed. The value of alignment between departments became clear in a playful way during the game, which was led by Mieke Grashuis. The winning team was rewarded with a small prize, although all participants also received a wellness package to take home as a giveaway. In short: plenty of smiling faces after an insightful afternoon.

Future editions

During the closing of the event, it quickly became clear that this day will become a regular feature on Slimstock’s events calendar. The connections the women built with one another reflect exactly the strength of Slimstock and form part of one of our core company promises. Slimstock can act as a facilitating partner in strengthening these connections, and it is even possible that a future edition will take place at the location of one of the participants.
