Great feats for fantastic causes deserve great support. Especially when the causes are this important. That’s why Slimstock is proud to announce HMS Oardacious as our latest charity partner! But who are they? And what’s their story?
Introducing HMS Oardacious
HMS Oardacious has grown from the seed of an idea into a successful campaign. Since 2019, HMS Oardacious has been on a mission to provide Mental Health and Well-being support to the Submarine community.
In January 2020, four serving Royal Navy Submariners became the first ever Royal Navy team and the fastest military team in history to complete the ‘World’s Toughest Row’ battling the rough Atlantic Ocean for 35 days, 6 hours and 40 minutes. HMS Oardacious has since grown into a hugely successful campaign that’s reached millions worldwide, raising over £600,000 in support of Mental Health and Heritage charities.
Now, HMS Oardacious is preparing to set a new world record for the first and fastest all-women serving military team to row across any ocean. This is a monumental challenge to simply finish. Let alone set a world record. To help them on their way, Slimstock is proud to partner with HMS Oardacious and support their cause.
A lesson in navigating adversity
Attendees of the Slimstock Customer Day were fortunate to hear from Founder, Hugo Mitchell-Heggs as he took to the stage to share his experience of tackling a voyage of this nature.
Hugo offered our customer community some powerful lessons around the role of adaptability and the resilience needed to navigate such volatile conditions.
This year’s race will begin in early December, with up to 40 teams from all walks of life participating. Those brave enough to take on the challenge will row more than 3000 miles west from San Sebastian in La Gomera in the Canary Islands, to Nelsons Dockyard in Antigua.
During their journey, the crew will battle sleep deprivation, salt sores, physical extremes and of course, their own mental wellbeing.
