As part of our Customer Day, we conducted this interview with Mark Boderius, Head of Purchase & Product Development, ORION Versand GmbH & Co. In this interview we explore how the business continues to evolve, the importance of data and process excellence, and the role technology plays in staying ahead in a fast-changing market.

 

How does Slim4 affect your purchasing?

“We have been planning our range manually for years, decades, we really started at the beginning of the week with item 1 and by the end of the week we had reached the last item. And we had to check each item to see whether we needed to order it or not. And as you know, 80% of the items don’t have to be ordered yet, but we still had a good look at them. A lot of time was spent on this and this has now been completely eliminated. We rely on the software and can use the values that are specified there, we can adopt the order suggestions and therefore have hardly any time for other processes. We had to struggle a little with the loss of employees and we were able to compensate for this well and now have room for further process optimisation and we can go into more detail.”

 

What impulses will you take away from the Slimstock Customer Day?

“What I am taking away from the customer day is this interlinking between purchasing and sales. This will definitely be strengthened even further now. In any case, that was another impulse that we took away with us. We’re still not doing enough, we’re on the right track, but we can do even more. And we’ve now been given the space and freedom to do so. “
