The public transport operator is implementing Slim4 to streamline procurement and planning for train and infrastructure maintenance. The partnership will strengthen Metro de Madrid’s ability to avoid spare parts shortages, keeping maintenance plans on track and services running smoothly.

Metro de Madrid has teamed up with Slimstock to transform how it manages spare parts across its vast transport network. With the implementation of Slim4, Slimstock’s advanced supply chain planning platform, the metro operator will gain better visibility over demand, allowing it to improve the procurement process for both preventive and corrective maintenance across its trains and facilities.

The move comes as part of Metro de Madrid’s broader strategy to enhance operational resilience and efficiency across its supply chain. With over 14,000 parts required to maintain a fleet of more than 2,000 rolling stock vehicles and 302 stations, accurate demand forecasting and procurement are critical.

By implementing Slim4, Metro de Madrid aims to automate its parts planning process, reduce the risk of unexpected shortages, and ensure that key maintenance activities are never disrupted. At the same time, the platform will support the city’s strict public procurement procedures by enabling earlier, more accurate planning.

Enhancing service through smarter planning

The goal of the project is clear: improve spare parts availability, reduce excess stock, and create a more efficient, data-driven supply chain planning process. Slim4 will provide the Purchasing Department with real-time visibility and control over procurement, backed by proven functionality in similarly complex environments across the rail sector.

“Ensuring timely availability of spare parts is essential to our operations,” said José Luis García Quijano, Head of Purchasing at Metro de Madrid. “With Slim4, we can better anticipate our needs, automate key planning activities, and align our procurement more closely with the realities of public tendering. This step is key to optimising our stock without compromising service.”

Tailored tools for complex operations

With components ranging widely in terms of lifecycle and demand patterns, Metro de Madrid needs to plan spare parts procurement with precision. Slim4 enables this through tools such as ABC analysis, dynamic safety stock calculations, and forecasting models that consider both seasonality and historical trends.

Arnau Peris, Executive Director at Slimstock, added: “Metro de Madrid is one of Europe’s most iconic and complex transit systems. Supporting their supply chain journey is an exciting challenge and one that we’re fully committed to. Our role is to help the team plan with confidence, reduce uncertainty, and ultimately ensure passengers receive a reliable, high-quality service.”

The collaboration signals a shared commitment to operational excellence—and a smarter, more strategic approach to public transport supply chain management.
