Jumbo Sports, the specialist in sports equipment for golfers, hockey players and winter sports enthusiasts, has chosen Slimstock’s supply chain platform to optimise its inventory management. Jumbo Sports’ growing range, which now comprises 20,000 SKUs across three sports disciplines, is making it increasingly difficult to manage stock efficiently. With the implementation of the award-winning Slimstock’s platform, Jumbo Sports now has the right tools to achieve healthy stock levels while increasing service levels.

With 11 physical stores throughout the Netherlands and an extensive webshop, Jumbo Sports offers a wide range of products for the three sports. However, the goal to offer the most comprehensive range comes with its own challenges. Not only the core ranges, but also the customised products require accurate inventory management. To prevent too many “no sales” or backorders, Jumbo Sports is now taking active steps to improve its inventory management. Slimstock’s solution offers Jumbo Sports deeper insight into accurate forecasts, enabling better-informed decisions when putting together the right assortments for each branch. This should introduce not only a more efficient but also a more profitable way of working.

Complex assortments

“With the growth of our assortment, it has become essential to get a better grip on our stock,” says Ruud Aertssen, Procurement Manager at Jumbo Sports. “We want to gain better insight into the forecasting of our product categories. There may be products that have a low turnover rate but are still essential to our customers. We need to work on maintaining a healthy inventory, and Slimstock can help us do that very well.”

Aertssen emphasises that the three sports categories (golf, hockey and winter sports) each have their own specific inventory requirements, which calls for a targeted approach for each sport. “Because we are dealing with three different product categories, our supply chain is extremely complex. With the arrival of Slimstock, we will gain more insight and control over the various ranges and will still be able to adopt a uniform way of working.”

Service level up

In parallel with building up a healthy inventory, Aertssen also wants to increase the company’s service level. By achieving the right inventory allocation, customers will not miss out on their desired products, which will improve the customer experience. Aertssen: “Our delivery quality needs to improve. Now we are confident that we will be able to serve our customers better. We look forward to the results and improvements in our working methods that Slimstock will bring.”
