MyMicro increases availability with reduced inventory value
Since 2008, MyMicro has strived to prolong the usability of electronic devices and give them a new lease of life. As a result of enormous demand for such services, the electronics specialist has enjoyed steady growth over the past few years. In order to help manage the growing diversity of their product range, MyMicro turned to Slimstock’s Slim4 solution to optimize their inventory processes. Within the first few months of installation, MyMicro has increased availability from 85% to 90% while simultaneously reducing stock value. MyMicro Group are now working hard to achieve the next availability target of 95%.
Comprised of online retailer, ReplaceDirect, and dealer organisation, Twindis, which caters for resellers, stores and IT specialists; MyMicro is a specialist provider of energy products, parts and accessories for mobile electronic devices. CEO, Erwin Verstegen, further explains the company's philosophy: "with our expert advice, repair service and extensive range of parts and accessories, we help customers get more out of their smartphone, laptop, tablet and other electrical goods."
Given the company's strong performance and continuous growth, there is no denying that MyMicro have developed a solid formula for success. However, with more than 160,000 SKUs, of which around 12,000 are directly deliverable from stock, Verstegen notes the downside of managing such growth: "with four different locations, organisational processes were not always very efficient." Following a move to two new locations in Beek and Donk in 2013, Verstegen added: "while the modern buildings and 2,400 meters of warehouse space has allowed us to work together as one team, to improve our efficiency and achieve further growth, we turned to Slimstock to help optimise our inventory processes."
Knowlegeable inventory specialists
Prior to working with Slimstock, MyMicro tried to develop a solution internally: "we tried to develop something ourselves using our Microsoft Dynamics AX ERP-system. However, effective inventory management is extremely complicated and we quickly ran into trouble. In order to find a suitable solution, we explored the options available to us and Slim4 stood out as the obvious choice."
Following the successful installation of the software solution, Verstegen explains: "although our people received full training, the consultants and help desk at Slimstock are always on hand if we ever need any help and advice. With Slimstock as our knowledge partner in the field of inventory management, we can focus our attention on our customers".
Product life cycle management
Thanks to Slim4, MyMicro has been able to increase availability across their product range while simultaneously improving service levels from 85% to over 90%. Verstegen adds: "The solution enables our planners to identify trends earlier and thus adapt our operations accordingly. For example, with more effective product demand classifications, the inventory optimisation software has helped us to manage product life cycles more proactively; thus making obsolete stock a thing of the past. The introduction of Slim4 has also helped us achieve a greater degree of visibility across our product ranges, reduced delivery times and increased standardisation across our purchase processes."
The CEO concludes: "thanks to Slim4, we have greater control over our operations and as a result we are more responsive than ever before."
